Federico Pontarollo is a documentary photographer based in Amsterdam, supporting emerging artists, artisans, and creatives in shaping and sharing their narratives, products, and art. With a degree in communication and cultural sciences and an MSc in anthropology from Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, his work aims to explore details, nuances, relationships, and personal interpretations to connect daily human experiences with the macro definitions we employ to describe our world. His ethnographic approach, combined with slow photography, allows him to establish a deep connection with the subjects and environments he works with, creating visual documentation examining themes such as loneliness and urban alienation, sustainability, and community lifestyles. His latest work, part of his master's thesis, is based on three months of ethnographic fieldwork within a community in Italy and investigates the role of ecovillages and commoning in the revitalisation of Italy’s rural areas and land and resources stewardship.

Federico has progressive experience in analogue black and white and colour printing, offering one-to-one workshops and teachings.
